In 2023, the Saudi government mandated that education buses, as part of public transportation, be equipped with video surveillance equipment. These devices must operate normally at all times, and recorded content should be saved as required. Incident-related recordings must be retained until investigations conclude.
Violators face various fines: 500 riyals for using non-compliant cameras; 1,000 riyals for improper installation or lack of monitoring signs; 5,000 riyals for non-compliant video recording and saving; 10,000 riyals for installing cameras in prohibited areas; and 20,000 riyals for disseminating or destroying videos/camera systems.
